Like everyone else I think that this is a no-brainer. Everyone wants to submit art and creative stuff for the opportunity presented but I would like a little more structure to the submissions.

Everyone has submission materials ready for stuff like this but I would like to see everyone working from the same source materials. Perhaps for artists a choice between three separate pages of script to layout and pencil. That way we could see what different people bring to the same material.

Maybe it would work after an initial round of eliminations.

But it would be neat to see.

This is an amazing idea. I'l be more interested in the writing, since I can't draw a straight line with a ruler.
Hope this pans out. :)

Generally, having been involved in a few of them, I am not a fan of "contest" types of talent searches. Generally, I feel they inspire a lot of people to do a lot of work for nothing, with no recompense and no recognition. In most cases, only the winner sees any payoff of any kind, and the "deal" part usually ends up falling through or only being honored in the strictest and most minimal manner possible. (Sure we published your story buried in the back pages of a 100 page annual, and now we aren't returning your calls, but we still PUBLISHED you.)

You mentioned in your description that there would be prizes along the way, and that's a better way of going, if at least some of the finalists see some actual MONEY. If you're talking about prizes of original art or some such nonsense, who needs it! At least the top ten, or even top five should get more respect than that.

Also, the winners are not usually the authors of the best work. The natural bias of the company tends to play in the choosing of the winner. Picking the project that is the most in keeping with "our style". leaving much more original works out in the cold. Reasonable perhaps, but not truly unbiased. Or, in the case of open voting, it just becomes a popularity contest with thousands voting for their "faves".

OK, all that sounds pretty negative, but I just thought someone should point out the pitfalls here. On the positive side, it could be a great opportunity for someone. Also, I put Josh on the side of the positives. Josh, I think you really care about comics and the people on the site, and I believe you will do your best to make sure the contest is fair and fun and that the terms are reasonable and honored fully. So, there's my two cents.

I am currently working on some small press work along with developing my own material, but as I'm sure my fellow artisans would agree that all artists whether they be writers, sculptors, painters, and yes even comic book artists would jump at the chance to see their work exposed and viewed by a wider audience.
The chance to work with a seasoned professional, to collaborate on a project with a liked mind individual would also be a very appealing endeavor, one that can't be ignored or refused if one hopes to further ones career.
Even though I am currently working in the field as a penciller and have had some experience as a writer I look forward to submitting my work in hopes of garnering further exposure to my work which will one day hopefully pave the way for additional projects and assist me in further developing my own work(s).

These opportunities don't come along often enough! I'm all for this, especially for an opportunity to have an editor critique your art, regardless of it's concentration. I hope this goes beyond the polling stage.

Would the contest be a reality show? I was just thinking last night that this wouldmake a decent reality show. Right now would be a great time for it with the writers' strike going on. Couldn't be any worse than "Who wants to be a superhero." At any rate I, too would jump at the chance, and with their were more of them.
